Post-Doc : quantum optics of femtosecond frequency combs
par - 27 juin 2008
The quantum optics group of the Laboratoire Kastler Brossel is elaborating a new experiment that aims at studying the quantum properties of frequency combs and applications to quantum metrology. This study is performed within the general frame of highly multimode quantum optics and its application to parallel quantum information processing, and is funded by the newly funded European project HIDEAS (High Dimensional Entangled Systems). Frequency combs (or mode-locked trains of femtosecond pulses) are ideal tools for quantum optics in the continuous variable regime : very long coherence length, high peak power and high stability. By the use of a synchronously pumped optical parametric oscillator we plan to produce very efficiently squeezed light and entanglement between various frequency combs. The analysis of these non-classical states will be performed with a technique imported from coherent control : the local oscillator of the homodyne detection will be temporally shaped with a pulse shaper. In the near future, this device will be used to perform clock synchronisation at the standard quantum limit and we will study the possibility to use quantum resources to improve this measurement.
The group is looking for a post-doc specialist in mode-locked femtosecond lasers and coherent control techniques and willing to learn experimental quantum optics in the continuous variable regime. The group already has a grant from a European contract, but we will also apply to other grant opportunities. The position can start in autumn 2008 and would ideally last two years.
