Theme :
Alcaline atoms implanted in monocrystaline solid helium matrix

Group activity

The main research objective of this new group is the study of the properties of cesium atoms implanted in a monocrystalline solid helium matrix in the hexagonal phase.

Questions arousen by this subject are related to the mechanism which permits implatation of atoms into the solid phase from the liquid, and links to the related topic of helium-cesuim wetting. Also of interest will be the role which vacancies in the solid may play as well as the effect of the anisotropy of the crystal on the spectrosopic properties of the embedded atoms. If the hyperfine structure anisotropy of the ground state is sufficiently large, the measurement of the anapole moment of cesium would be feasible.
